I hope they load it with bonus material. I'm really hoping for some non-Godzilla Toho sci-fi in the box, too.

Here’s our Godzilla boxset, also featuring a bunch of non-Godzilla movies?

Can I say “da fuq” on this board?

Or maybe a separate box-set for those ones. Some of the movies are set in the same timeline though, such as Rodan.

Dont get ahead of yourself, they havent even officially announced a Godzilla set yet. Seems unlikely they would do additional sets.

It wouldn't be so strange, as they are all in a shared universe, to various degrees. Take Rodan for instance. We know Criterion have the rights to it, and the Godzilla film Ghidorah, the Three-Headed Monster assumes viewers have seen Rodan and are familiar with the character.

It would be very weird if Rodan wasn’t included, and the fact it could not be didn’t even cross my mind until now. It’s always been included in all the releases I’ve ever had?

Runtime is 1295 minutes. Does that match the total runtime of the Showa era films?

Pretty much. Adding up all of the runtimes listed on each of the 15 film's wikipedia entries comes to 1300 dead on. Which is good news regarding King Kong vs Godzilla. Regarding non-Godzilla films, I imagine if they were on the set they'd be as supplements anyway.

I hope we can get good releases of Dogora, Prophecies of Nostradamus, etc in the future.

Arrow released The Bloodthirsty Trilogy so maybe they can release some of the non-Big G films.

Sadly Toho treats Half Human and Prophecies of Nostradamus the way Disney treats Song of the South.

Forgive me if this is incoherent. I have been searching for the Toho booth since opening, still no luck. It is beyond crowded so I am relying on my friends to find the booth. Jesus there is a reason I avoided down here all my childhood.

Toho needs to grow up and show one of their greatest SPFX films (Nostradamus) to the world.

The US version, LAST DAYS OF PLANET EARTH, was distributed by UPA so maybe the rights transfered to Criterion? That said, two films from THE BLOODTHIRSTY TRILOGY were UPA once, and now seem to be back at Toho, as Arrow released them on BD.

I did a UPC lookup and it shows that the release's UPC shares the first several numbers with Criterion's other releases, dating back to the LaserDisc era.

Apparently, Criterion's wanted to release a Showa box set since the 90s.

From my friend, Toho had a lot of Godzilla stuff as well as a catalogue of all their back films (including Kurosawa and other films they have produced in the past). I made my way over there when the crowd subsided. I asked any info on the boxset that was rumored, including the target online info.
Their response: “Expect an announcement from Criterion this week.”

I think those first several numbers are on all their releases.

That's what I'm getting at: The UPC number is in line with Criterion's other releases, meaning that it's 99% a Criterion release and not some random yet coincidental release by, like, Mill Creek Entertainment.

Imagine if we waited all this time and Mill Creek ended up releasing it.

Six laserdisc titles (Godzilla vs. Mothra, Godzilla vs. Monster Zero, Godzilla's Revenge, Terror of Mechagodzilla, and both the original and U.S. versions of the '54 film) got far enough to have UPCs and catalog numbers assigned, though not spine numbers. David Kalat referred to it as a "set" when he was interviewed about the Gojira/King of the Monsters DVD/Blu, but the Laserdisc Database has individual entries with $39.95 price tags, so they may have been meant as standalone releases. I've never seen an explanation for their cancellation, but Paramount released English-dubbed, pan-and-scanned versions of all of them except the original Gojira, so perhaps Criterion wasn't able to obtain the necessary materials to do OAR releases with Japanese audio, or they were planning to license them from Paramount (which only happened once in the LD era, with Robinson Crusoe on Mars) and that fell through.

Added, no doubt, by the same user who runs the Criterion thread and entered the individual releases, and based almost entirely on the Target listing.

This thread would be a lot less exhausting if people just accepted that this release is coming out and no one is going to pull the rug out on that
