I had no idea he was married to Julie Kirgo.

I wasn't aware either, but it is clear from their Facebook pages if you look close enough. Mr. Redman posted that he was in a Santa Monica hospital over Christmas and was active on Facebook until just a week ago. Hopefully he didn't suffer long.

Twilight Time's Nick Redman
Well now I feel bad for spending the last decade crapping on this guy. Kinda.

If it were not for Redman's tireless efforts in preserving film and film music, my Blu-Ray and movie soundtrack collections would be full of irreplaceable holes. And he was a witty, erudite speaker on countless commentary tracks. He will be missed.

RIP Nick Redman
Good grief, that's very sad, to die relatively young (these days) and while still being productive. I hope he took some solace in knowing how much entertainment and educational value he provided to people. Starting a distribution label, offering all those commentary tracks, ... that's a nice legacy to leave.

Producer Andrew G. Vajna, whose Hollywood success with such films as the Rambo franchise, Angel Heart and Total Recall culminated with him returning to his native Hungary where he became pretty much the single most powerful industry figure for the past decade and a half or so.

Can't find an obituary, but James Frawley, director of The Muppet Movie, The Christian Licorice Store, The Big Bus, and Kid Blue. He also directed lots of television, including twenty-eight episodes of The Monkees.

Dušan Makavejev.
Looks like most (maybe all) English speaking outlets haven't picked this up yet. I get the feeling he's pretty obscure with most American film-goers and even cinephiles, but fortunately his best work is easily obtainable in the U.S. thanks to Criterion.

Kanopy has Criterion's transfer of WR: Mysteries of the Organism, so depending on your location you may be able to stream it.

And of course there's that Eclipse box set, which includes Love Affair, or the Case of the Missing Switchboard Operator.

Although ironically he's probably the least obscure of Yugoslavia's pre-Kusturica filmmakers: I reckon only Aleksandar Petrović would seriously challenge Makavejev for overall international profile during their heyday, and he's been long forgotten (sadly).

I, and I suspect several others, still fondly remember Channel 4's screening of Montenegro in it's infamous Red Triangle season (where they broadcast more explicit films with a warning red triangle in the top left corner - well, for teenage boys this was an invitation to watch!) and WR with added pixellation.

Don't forget Criterion's edition of Sweet Movie too. I would love the chance to revisit Montenegro at some point. I'm afraid only 'certain' scenes stuck in my memory over the years!

Part of me can't believe that The Other Side Of The Wind's will be his last score, and part of me thinks it's all too fitting. A big loss either way.
