They somehow found a way to make the new Sid & Nancy cover worse than the OOP one.swo17 wrote:

I actually like the cheap MGM S&N cover better. Hopscotch is an improvement, don't care for the other cartoons, and Breaking Point looks good.

I like Drew Friedman but these aren't doing it for me

The all-new Sid & Nancy artwork they commissioned must've missed the May 15th deadline, and Criterion just couldn't put off the announcement any longer.

I'm kind of squinting and squawking and rolling my eyes a bit and it definitely looks a lot better that way.

The only one I like is The Breaking Point, in large part because of the B with its corner cut off by the gun barrel. All the rest are too cartoonish (in the case of La Poison, to the point of turning Germaine Reuver into a grotesque caricature with a bizarre forehead,) with the exception of the bizarrely spartan Sid and Nancy.

I like all the covers, but especially Breaking Point and Hopscotch.
at least they replaced two of the worst covers in the collection with Sid and Nancy and Hopscotch!

Was definitely expecting something more loud and vibrant with Sid and Nancy, not something that looks like a 2 Chainz album cover.

don't go giving them any more funny ideas, or they'll add that parental advisory sticker on the cover too!

For those that want to know, Greg Ruth confirmed he did the The Breaking Point cover and word is Kyle Baker did the Hopscotch cover. No one has taken responsibility for the Sid & Nancy cover

Even Sid has a problem with the cover art.

I quite like the cover for The Breaking Point and don't mind the one for Sid & Nancy.
I'm so sick of the cartoon covers. Hopscotch looks like slapstick, for fuck's sake. I think they work sometimes, but it's rare. They work for films that are animated, slapstick, or (perhaps) comic book-based films as long as one is aware of it. Very rarely for other films in my opinion -- Onibaba is an example of one I like, but I still think it would have been better with a still from the film. Anyway, ugh.. they're just going for it nowadays.

Martin Scorsese's World Cinema Project, No. 2 (I put it up on Facebook for the time being but it's public and shouldn't require an account to view)

Let me be the first to say the Rebecca cover is better than the old one.

Overall, a really pretty good month. The Lynch cover isn't great but I don't really expect there are great options.

A whatever month. No terrible covers, which is something, but nothing particularly good either
