Warner Catalog Titles on BD/UHD

#1 Post by tojoed » Wed Jan 27, 2010 10:33 am

Warner's BluRay slate for 2010. Only "The Maltese Falcon" and "Treasure of the Sierra Madre" are pleasing to me. The rest is so much blah.

In addition to those two titles, I'm interested in Ben Hur UCE if it includes the 1925 silent version and certainly Mutiny on the Bounty ('35)

I'm hoping that they will release Conflict and The Two Mrs. Carrols on DVD together with these Blu-ray Bogey movies. Marketing wise this would be the right time.

Indeed. So why a huge company like Warner releasing so little on Blu with a huge catalog. I'm baffled.

As the link indicates, this is unlikely to be the complete list.

What's Up, Doc? announcement is perplexing. The existent DVDs image is very soft, but I sort of assumed it was a product of the filming elements... still, Hi-Def Bogdanovich, you know I'm down for it!

No Singin' in the Rain, A Star is Born, The Postman Always Rings Twice, Dial M for Murder, etc.

We have a while to wait. 2011 marks its 70th anniversary, so I'm sure they'll save it as their big holiday season title for next year.

Probably be one of those big collector's sets like they did with Gone with the Wind and Oz.

Does anyone see The Thin Man Collection being released on Blu anytime soon?

No. Warner Bros. will occupy themselves for the next few years with putting their two dozen or so canonized, best-selling classics on Blu-ray. You should just consider yourself lucky that they're even keeping the DVDs in print.

If they did, it would probably come with two martini glasses, a shaker and maybe a Fox Terrier.

Big Sleep on blu would be great. I'm also hoping for Richard Lester's Finders Keepers. Rather surpised this hans't been released through the archives. WB does own it, right? It may be minor Lester, but there are some very funny moments in it. The script is by Charles Dennis - the guy who did the Constance Towers interviews on the Fuller reissues - based on his own novel.

Nice! I wonder if they can get John Waters on board for extras...

Wow, Warner Brothers is bringing this to Blu-ray and not The Magnificent Ambersons? No question, I'll buy it (The Bad Seed is actually the film that turned me on to classic cinema at the age of 13), but really? That cover art stinks too. I wish they'd bring back the old VHS artwork.

bought the DVD years ago, and still haven't watched it(!), but I believe there are good elements already available for this one, as opposed to Ambersons being cut up and released truncated, it has its problems getting its 'definitive' release...
