I so totally cannot wait for a 90 minute film about some guy who sits in one room all night pulling switches, pushing buttons and flipping lights on and off while absolutely nothing else happens.

Seriously, those games are fucking awful.

I like the backstory that obsessive fans have deciphered from it, but the gameplay is just a bunch of jumpscares so yeah. Like most prospective movies based on video games tho this likely will go nowhere.

Well, they've done it. They've created the most unlikely and unexpected casting announcement in the history of all time ever: Laura Linney joins the cast of the next Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film

Claimed by their bottomless chum bucket…farewell, dear Laura!

Can they just cast Andre 3000 again?

Biopic of the Kinks in the works, directed by Julien Temple.

No reason to think this will be good, right?

Who knows? Julien Temple worked with Ray Davies on ABSOLUTE BEGINNERS so it has that going for it.

In today's biggest "WTF" news, Lu Chuan (Kekexili, The City of Life and Death) will be following up his next film—a period adventure due out in October—with...a live-action adaptation of the '80s cartoon Black Cat Detective.

Kenneth Branagh to direct a new version of Murder on the Orient Express.

Will this go down the all-star, prestige route like the Lumet / Finney version? Hmmm... probably...

As a huge Marx Brothers fan, especially Groucho, I'm not sure how I feel about this.

Considering the amazing job he just did with Love & Mercy, the fact that Oren Moverman is scripting it is heartening. Zombie's got a long-established reverence for all things Marx brothers, so if anything it's a wise choice from the perspective that he'll treat the material with reverence, but who knows how it'll turn out.

And hopefully, the upside could be to reignite the Marx Brothers and get their films fully restored, with blu ray releases.

What has been the hold up on that? The films seem popular enough to have warranted it by this time, are there rights or restoration issues?

I don't know that there are many things that I find less enjoyable than filmmakers trapped in their own alternate universes. It seems like such a waste of time that could be spent doing something original when you make stuff like Life During Wartime and this. Though I know it's difficult for Solondz to get his films financed, and this probably gives that process a nudge, so I can't fault him too much.

After all these years, there is still hope for a Deadwood-movie. In other, less exciting news (or are they :-k ), Dolph Lundgren is starring in an new Kindergarden Cop. Uncertain whether this is a sequel, remake, or a rebootmaquel. From the writer of American Pie.

Not even the first American Pie. Rather, American Pie 2 (and one of the direct-to-video spinoffs).
