With Mann constantly fucking with it, I guess you could say they are different cuts of the same movie.

I wonder if this means that the O Brother Where Art Thou blu-ray will finally be announced. Has anyone heard anything about that since the comments from Roger Deakins last year?

French Blu-ray releases of Miller's Crossing and Raising Arizona have been scheduled for 24th August.

Somewhat off topic, but this is just a follow-up to my earlier query regarding the blu ray release of O Brother Where Art Thou?. In case you haven't already heard, it looks to be confirmed for a September 13th release date. I'll definitely be picking that up day one, since I keep lending my DVD copies out to people and not getting them back. Still have a copy of the Big Lebowski, though, so I think I can hold off on the blu for a bit.

We just finished watching the Lebowski Blu and there is no DNR whatsoever. I don't imagine that this looks any different, let alone better than the HD-DVD but it still is a solid presentation. I'd be very surprised if this was a genuine new master.

They both have issues, but yeah, if those caps are correct, the Blu looks waxy and smoothed out, lousy in detail. Should probably just pick up the HD DVD.

Going by those caps, the Blu does look waxy by comparison but it's nowhere near as bad as the Predator or Peeping Tom discs (the latter especially).

The caps look waxy but when watching the movie Finch can't see any DNR whatsover, so maybe it's just waxy caps.

eerik just wants the transfer to be bad for some reason.

Someone told you it looks great and you asked if they watched it with their eyes closed.

The likes of Chris may have more discerning eyes to spot the DNR in motion as I clearly didn't realise there was any until I saw those screencaps. Again, other titles have been tinkered with worse, but if it wasn't for the superior audio, I'd regret this double-dip (and I sold my Anniversary Edition DVD in advance). I thought Universal's transfers of The Thing, Eternal Sunshine or the Spotless Mind and Public Enemies were rather good but I knew they botched other catalogue titles and after this, I'm not going to blind-buy their Jaws Blu when it comes out (especially if it lacks the mono track).

An inescapable thought is you might be better off just not looking at internet caps and being happy with what you don't see in motion.

Exactly. Screencaps can be very misleading, we've learned this over and over yet people still lean on them over the word of someone who actually saw the transfer in question.
