Shocked how different Wenders looks without his longer hair.

(For anyone interested in watching, Brut is live streaming the awards on Facebook.)

Oh, and I missed the short film Palme, which went to 27 by Flóra Anna Buda, with a special mention for Fàr by Gunnur Martinsdóttir Schlüter.

Seems like Anatomy of a Fall will be fighting it out for the big one then

A smiling Roger Corman gets a standing ovation, which was not on my bingo card.

Zone of Interest wins the Grand Prix, all but guaranteeing Anatomy of a Fall nabs the Palme d'or.

Trying to figure out what black magic NEON has that lets them actively predict what film will win the Palme d'Or

Is having distributed the Palme D'or winner 4 times in a row some sort of record?

At least there is a good chance of NEON showing the Triet near me thanks to its win. It's a shame I can't be sure about the same happening for the Rohrwacher.

Surprised only really by Sandra Huller not winning for Best Actress. A German critic I enjoy reading described Anatomy of a Fall as akin to an above average TV movie in his original review of the film. Hope the Kaurismaki will play near me in Philly at least and I'm interested in the Tran An Hung and Kore-eda, maybe the Glazer.

Well, it's hard to complain about these awards given that all seven were acclaimed even if Haynes or Kaurismäki would have been more exciting, but it is more exciting to have the Palme come down to two of the more acclaimed films of the festival and not Ken Loach and Xavier Dolan. NEON seems to have a hypothetical hit with Anatomy (good chunks of it may be in English?), and Tran Anh Hung winning Director in 2023 was unexpected. Most of these films received sufficient acclaim or came courtesy of directors who are essentially festival-proof, so hopefully there isn't a Showing Up among the lot that waits an entire year to resurface.

A user on a different forum was at a Q&A with Bertrand Bonello and he confirmed that his newest film 'The Beast' was going to TIFF.

Bonello also stated that The Beast was going to be a 2.5 hour long sci-fi film.

That sounds amazing. But in the meanwhile could someone—anyone—please release COMA in the States? One would think this could’ve sold on the strength of the cast alone.
