Bloody Spear at Mount Fuji is likely to top any other announcement from any other label in September.

I'd like to say yes, but I'll hold any true excitement until I see what the master look like.
In any case, what a light month (and even lighter announcement since Ismael was already known).

As long as the Uchida has good subs, it will be a phenomenal benefit to have this finally available. (I've only seen it unsubbed and French-subbed so far).

Any news on The Great Silence? Seems like a natural for Arrow and I’m hoping for some improvement on the extras of the American edition.

Regarding Apprentice, I always am intrigued when a title I’ve never heard of is given an extensive restoration. It sounds like, at the very least, it has some literary and acting merit. But, does it have any supporters? Has anyone made any claims for it, beyond the novelty of “reteaming” Sutherland with Don’t Look Now screenwriter Scott? What was the motivation in bringing this title to definitive home video treatment - does it have individual merit, or is it being released as part of a bigger deal involving other titles?

BTW I’d love to see Puffball get the Arrow treatment - materials and rights permitting - reuniting Don’t Look Now director and star.

Genuinely intrigued, hence my curiosity, as I am with Indicator’s announcement of Absolution.

What do people think about the clue with the two bananas?

Very much hope it’s a new restoration of Dead Ringers - but could the bananas or what they’re wearing not be relevant?

The image is from the children's TV series Bananas in Pyjamas. I suspect The Girl in the Yellow Pyjamas is another strong possibility.

I imagine it's this. More giallo is never a bad thing.

September 2018 titles:
  • Incident in a Ghostland (UK)
  • Heathers (UK)
  • The Pyjama Girl Case (US/UK/CA)
  • Horrors of Malformed Men (US/UK/CA)
  • The Baby (US/UK/CA)
Also Day of the Jackal for the U.S. and Canada, as that was previously a U.K.-only title.

Horrors of Malformed Men intrigues me due to the premise combined with how much effort Arrow has put into it with a new restoration; I don't suppose anyone has seen it?

I saw Horrors of Malformed Men about a decade ago when it was released by Synapse. To be honest, I don't remember a whole lot except that it played like a combination of Freaks and The Island of Dr. Moreau, and that there was quite a bit of gratuitous nudity (though not necessarily of the erotic sort). Among the freakish experiments on display are animal-human hybrids and mixed sex conjoined twins. It was very colorful and dreamlike, but not something I've had any desire in the ensuing years to revisit. Frankly, beyond the first experience of its weirdness, there's just not that much to it.

I am glad to see The Baby coming out, though. I hope it will be an improvement on the Severin release, which looked very washed out and muted. This features a great, hag-horror performance from Ruth Roman and a surprising challenge to our initial sympathies.

Great news, as a lot of these films have never seen the light of day in the UK, despite having had US DVD releases long ago from the likes of Synapse (Horrors of Malformed Men), Severin (The Baby) and Blue Underground (The Pyjama Girl Case). And The Baby is fantastic (Here is the 1994 Moviedrome introduction when it was the second half of a night of films kicked off by Halloween, with Jane Campion's short film Peel as an intermission between them!)

From the Horror List Project thread, here is Cold Bishop's take on Horrors of Malformed Men and Mr Sausage highlighted The Pyjama Girl Case during his excellent Giallo write ups (In terms of Italian giallo films from this era, I would love to see Autopsy get this kind of Blu-ray treatment next).

Incident In A Ghostland is written and directed by Pascal Laugier, of Martyrs fame (I note that he also wrote and directed a 2012 film starring Jessica Biel and Jodelle Ferland in between, The Tall Man)

Heh the reason there's a ton of nudity is because is because it's a type of Pink film called Ero Guro which is essentially an attempt to great a sort of grotesque eroticism. Looking at more details it appears to have either been banned in Japan or faces screening issues although I cannot attest to the veracity of either claim though. Weird. Hoping the release goes more into it.

Picked up Kat Ellinger book on Sergio Martino and in "Martino on disc" section, it says Torso is getting US only release from Arrow...

A few weeks ago, Sean Phillips posted a WIP that appeared to be the killer from Torso. He also posted a WIP of Django and liked a tweet asking if it was going to end up at the same place as one of his previous Arrow covers.

Django would be an easy buy from me if it's an improvement in any way from the Blue Underground Disc. It's a great film for parties. People eat it up here.

Apparently AGFA credited a recent theatrical screening of The Strange Vice of Mrs Wardh to Arrow too so that may also be an upcoming US exclusive (Shameless has UK rights like Torso).
