Sorry for the two years' delay in reporting. I received the r4au disc back in 2005 but it didn't play all the way through. So ezydvd sent me another, which also didn't play through. I subsequently got the anamorphic r2uk network/granada disc which looks sharp to me (though perhaps a bit too bright in the highlights, like the contrast was pushed a bit). I don't remember well the quality of the r4au, but I don't believe it was superior to the r2uk.

It seems likely, but does anyone know if Huston deliberately choose a muted colour scheme for this picture? Lots of browns, blacks and creams, casting a sepia tone over the whole production. The transfer is taken from a print, and could be seen as a little faded, but does the Network R2 disc correctly reflect the original scheme?

PAL speed-up would indeed appear to be the case judging by the BBFC page for the film.
