I went to nine stores today looking for the two disc version of Munich? Does anyone know of any problems with this edition? Anybody find one? It's not listed on Amazon anymore. DVDPlanet says it's unavailable.

From The Digital Bits:
Speaking of Universal, we've been getting reports from readers that the studio's Munich: Limited Edition is MIA in stores. Indeed, it seems no longer to be available from Amazon.com. We've got inquiries into the studio as to what's up with the release and we'll let you know when they get back to us. You can, however, still widely find the movie-only version in stores (and online) if you prefer it. [Editor's Note: We've learned that the 2-disc version hasn't been cancelled and it isn't defective. Demand was simply much higher than expected, so retailers have had to order more copies from Universal. You should find the title back in stores soon.]

I went looking for the 2 disc set last week after I found out that half the Best Buy stores only got about 5-10 copys of the set, and the other half of the stores were put onto a back order. The person I talked to said that it was going to be 2-3 weeks before copys of the DVD were going to come in. I went to Tower Records and they had 2 sets left, and the lady when I checked out said they only got 5 of the 2 disc sets in, compared she said to the 50 copys of the single disc. I had a friend check to see if Costco had any. He asked and all the got were the single disc, unlike when Lord of War and King Kong came out Costco only caried the 2 disc sets for those films.

Where'd you order from? I ordered from DDD and the next day they said "cancelled."

And why a shortage? Didn't Universal think there'd be any interest in this movie? #-o

I actually ordered mine from DDD, and on the day before release date,
and I guess I lucked out......

I assume your second question was rhetorical.

Amazon shipped one out to me on the weekend, so it should arrive soon. Hopefully it's actually the limited edition and not just the regular version.

Anyone else find it sad that Spielberg has to clarify that he isn't a self-hating jew on the intro that's included on the "movie-only" version?

Just imagine what would have had to say if he wasn't Jewish.

I did get the set today and watched it. quite a powerful film.
It makes you wish Spielberg would make more films like this and
less War Of The Worlds, Terminal, or Always......

The extras are quite slim,
you think there would be quite more,
like more original news footage (there is a little),
maybe even more about the Munich incident,
but overall, the film was more about the aftermath so.....

The extras put together are only about an hour,
with no trailers, galleries, and of course no commentary.

Slim when you think about the price of the set.
The photoalbum is pretty useless.
Mostly quotes from critics praising it.
(If you bought it, you probably dont need quotes of critics telling you how great it is)

I've always thought critics' quotes were useless as a selling point. My favorite current one is that idiot Roeper's quote that THE NEW WORLD is the best romantic epic since TITANIC (I'm paraphrasing) - which New Line dutifully put on its DVD cover of the Malick film!

But the quotes on "New World" are on the back and front covers,
as they are on most DVD packages.

For Munich, they are in the booklet inside!
You can't read the quotes until after you buy it.
So it's kinda pointless.....

At least Fight Club did it well,
putting good AND bad quotes in the booklet.

I had a dream, er, nightmare, that Criterion was putting this out, and that that was the reason for the delay.

I got a shipping confirmation from Amazon this morning. I guess they're available again.

Is the "limited edition" now OOP for good? Universal's site is now saying "not available for invidual sale" and pretty much every distributor I've spoken to today is out of stock (though none have said it is deleted or on moratorium).

Has anyone heard anything?

I ordered my 2 disc from Amazon 2 weeks ago and received it yesterday. But I have never seen it inside of an actual store. Good luck everyone. I can't wait to dig into the extras.

Does anybody know why John Wayne receives a "special thanks" credit for this movie? John Wayne!?

Just did some more digging and I'm hearing back that this is now officially on moratorium.
