And while you're at it, Belles on Their Toes ('52) is available in R1, and The Shocking Miss Pilgrim ('47) is on the list twice. Thanks for updating this list, Gordon.

From here:
With regards to the 3 Doris Day films being released by Fox early next year, the Doris Day fan site mentions that the films will feature bonus material, including a commentary with Polly Bergen for Move Over, Darling.

Gordon, your list is indeed invaluable. I do have some to add to it, though. I see that you have mentioned Come to the Stable, The Devil's in Love, Four Men and a Prayer, Kentucky, Suez, The Story of Alexander Graham Bell, and Zoo in Budapest, but there are many more films that Loretta Young made while at Fox that are still not available (the vast majority were never even on VHS). Here is a complete list, excluding the 5 just listed and excluding Born to Be Bad and The Call of the Wild, which are available on DVD.

1931
Three Girls Lost

1933
The Devil's in Love

1934
Bulldog Drummond Strikes Back
Caravan
The House of Rothschild
The White Parade

1935
Clive of India

1936
Ladies in Love

Ramona

1937

1938

1939

1949

1951
Half Angel

Hi Gordon. There are 6 films on your list that can be taken off:

On the Avenue (1937), That Night in Rio (1941), & The Gang's All Here (1943) are all coming to R1 on 20 February 2007, sold both individually and as part of "The Alice Faye Collection." The 4-disc set will also include Lillian Russell (1940) and will be part of the 'Marquee Musicals' line.

Blood and Sand (1941) is coming to R1 on 9 January 2007. I don't know yet whether this will be a 'Studio Classics' or 'Cinema Classics' selection.

O. Henry's Full House (1952) is set for a R1 release date of 21 November 2006. Product artwork shows it to be a 'Cinema Classics' selection.

Finally, The Immortal Sergeant (1943) was released to R1 DVD on 23 May 2006 as part of the 'War Classics' line.

More unreleased Fox films to add to the list. I searched filmographies of every actor and director I could think of who was ever on contract with Fox, and then verified each film as a Fox production or not.

I'll start with 1926 because this was the year that Janet Gaynor, Fox's first great star, came to the studio. Fox was making movies long before 1926 (John Ford came on board in 1920) but most of its silent-era output is now lost. And a list going back to day one would be nearly infinite.

I'd say Theda Bara was probably Fox' first great star. Also, just scanning your list, FOUR DEVILS is a lost film and will probably always therefore remain "unreleased".

Thanks for your Theda Bara comment but again, making a list going back that far would be too lengthy and would consist of very few films that still survive.

Also, thanks for pointing out 'Four Devils.' I misread the back of my copy of 'Sunrise;' I thought this movie was included as an extra but it turns out the extra is just a documentary about it.

Also, the Jane Withers films have yet to make it to DVD. I wonder if there is enough interest to list them all.

Perspective perspective perspective! I actually would find such a list quite compelling. And you seem little intimidated by lengthy lists!

The Arab Death (I mean Theda Bara) comment wasn't to prompt you to any new list activity in truth, but simply in response to your comment that Gaynor was Fox's first great star.

teens list:

REGENERATION

A FOOL THERE WAS
,

end of list.

Just kidding.

Your humor is quite refreshing! I took offense to none of it; on the contrary, it is always nice to see such passion when it comes to vintage film.
:)

Also, does anyone have insight into Fox's seemingly arbitrary DVD marketing/classification of its vault titles, specifically what determines what is a "Studio Classic," what is a "Cinema Classic," and why are some of its older films labeled neither? I assumed that the "Cinema Classics" line would consist of lesser films, but following this logic would lead one to believe that Return to Peyton Place (a S.C.) is of higher repute than The Seven Year Itch (a C.C.). And why was Orchestra Wives a S.C. and not a "Marquee Musical" selection? Why were The Innocents and Compulsion S.C. in their VHS days, but now that they're on DVD, they're not part of either classic series? Why am I asking such shallow, likely unanswerable questions?

Because you can.

Orchestra Wives is a SC and not a MM because the latter line had not yet debuted when it was first released. The Innocents belongs to no specific line because I think it was a marketing technique they adopted at the time of its release (October=Halloween, get it?) in order to get people from every buying latitude, as opposed to the SC line which appeals to a more restricted film lover circle.

As to the others, who knows?

The Lilliom on that list should not be the 1934 Lang version, but the 1930 Frank Borzage film with Charles Farrell. Which is not available.

P.S. Where are all of Janet Gaynors films? Many of them have been restored by Moma, George Eastman House, UCLA and the Netherlands Filmmuseum for her centennial, and desperately need to be released.

Anyone know if Fox still has rights to Friedkin's The Boys in the Band (and any plans for its release on DVD)? My well-worn VHS is gonna need replacing one of these days.

Turner Classic Movies is airing it in June along with a few other gay/lesbian films. Apparently, it will be broadcast in letterbox format.

It aired on TCM last year in letterbox and it apparently looked very good (VHS is open matte, TCM broadcast was 1.85). As an admirer of Friedkin (specifically The Exorcist and Bug) and of filmed plays, this sounds like an incredibly fascinating film.

Man Hunt coming soon?

Man Hunt coming soon?

This Fritz Lang title has been listed on the Fox Web site as "coming soon" for months now.

Any confirmation as to when it will show up for real?
