Hit the Deck is a great left-field musical choice from Warners, props to them on backing an underseen classic like this (And I just picked up Wind and the Lion for $5, so y'all are welcome)

Billy Rose's Jumbo is not a blockbuster either and could be seen as an odd choice for a blu release, so WAC is definitely making some left-field choices.

I really don't understand Warner's choices concerning Blu-ray releases either with regards to Archive vs. unlimited releases. I can see, for instance, giving Gypsy a limited Archive release, even though the DVD is still widely available as a pressed disc if they don't believe there's a big enough audience who is interested in an HD edition. However, they took the DVD of the original Get Carter out of print and relegated it to the Archive, only to then give it an unlimited Blu release. If they feel the movie will sell/has sold well enough to not limit the quantity of Blu-ray discs, then why demote the DVD?

Maybe they feel that now that Get Carter is available on blu-ray there won't be much of a demand for the dvd as people will either prefer the blu release or just keep their old dvds. Just an idea, though.

The next Warner Archives Blu-ray release is the first two seasons of A&E drama Longmire

Awesome! This has one of my favourite stars (Ann Miller) in it.

Does anyone know what extras are on this release?

What a shame. It's annoying when blurays have less extras than DVD

Sweet! They've cherry picked the best titles from the third musical set, at least!

Interesting choice. Correct me if I'm wrong, but so far WAC has only released blu-ray editions from widescreen movies in color? (I'm not considering their TV output)

Thank you, I assumed it was in color.

So tha still leaves non-widescreen movies. I wonder if they releasing not so popular musicals, such as Jumbo, Hit the deck and Kismet has anything to do with the fact that these are widescreen, when they could be releasing more popular titles, such as On the Town, Calamity Jane or Annie get your gun.

What's with Point Blank? Amazon says "Sign up to be notified when this item becomes available".

All Warners preorders now say that I think. Presumably part of some dispute between them and Amazon. No doubt it'll become available to order on it's July street date.

Via WA Facebook-

"we're putting the finishing touches on one of the all-time great noirs for Warner Archive Collection on Blu-ray. Stay tuned for further news"

Presumably one of the titles from their first Noir box: Guessing it's not Out of the Past to jinx it into being Out of the Past, but probably it's Gun Crazy or the Asphalt Jungle based 100% on supposition and Miss Cleo

I'd be down for The Asphalt Jungle, Murder, My Sweet or Out of the Past myself if it comes from that first set like you speculate.

EDIT: That being said, if it is from that first DVD box set that shows that WHV sees no viable market for their classic noir holdings on BD at their distribution level and therefore have presumably handed them all over to WA (which may be a good thing if WA can continue to increase their output).

I would be happy to see any of those. The Big Sleep is another great possibility, as it is noticeably MIA among the major Warner-Bogart films on Blu.

By saying "all time great" I would guess Out of the Past. The Big Sleep is also a strong possibility as Warner likes to show off it's stars. Bogie and Bacall's first appearance on blu ray.

Compared to the those great noirs from the first box, The Big Sleep is such a relatively mainstream a title, though, that seeing its debut relegated to Archive Blu would just be sad.

At least unlike their DVD line, Warner Archive Blus are indistinguishable from other Warner Blu-rays and are available via third party so it doesn't matter at all
