Save for the computer grid effect on the black part of the cover, I don't see what's so awful about it. I guess though it'd be better without the HDR and marketing blurb stickers.

There are just so many terrific images from that film, and in context this one is obviously very effective - but why choose it for a Blu-ray cover when you can use, say, the original placeholder cover for this release:

I've seen some UHDs with the HDR "sticker" printed as part of the cover, and we don't know yet (though it probably will be) if the "50 years ago" blurb is a sticker or not.

I understand there might be some better images to choose from, but does that make that a bad cover in itself ? I would probably prefer the original placeholder myself, but I like the new one too.

I mean, yes, you're right to a certain extent, though I think a red and black cover that doesn't immediately evoke the film to an average person in a retail store might not be the greatest approach. However: Won't be the first time I've quoted our great former mod Matt from the North by Northwest thread on this topic, won't be the last:

It's fine. A little busy, but they could package it in a ketchup-stained Wendy's bag and I'd still buy it.

Looks like the original 2001 cover I posted was lent out to the new standard Blu-ray release that will coincide with the UHD. Sad!

The best film of the year suddenly becomes gothic horror. What the fuck?

The original poster is so good... why mess with that at all?

Lionsgate has a tendency to mess with A24's great posters. I can only think of a few examples where the Blu-ray covers are better than/on par with the theatrical posters...

I rather like the cover, it's a nice variant of the poster art.

It makes me want to see the movie to find out if Ethan Hawke has a right eye in it

EDIT: nm, I can see from the original poster that he does

The worst part is, that's a perfectly nice painting being ruined. It might be forgivable had they even bothered to light the poster correctly. Genuinely head-scratching.

The most amazing thing about it is that it doesn't even advertise what the "Best" part is.

If this is the Best of 3D, then I'm sure it must include the paddle-ball scene from House of Wax (1953). Spoiler warning, it looks like the ball is bouncing right at your face! It's undoubtedly the most impressive 3D footage ever shot.

Never mind the fact that Emilia Clarke looks like a boy, if they're all on the ground, who the hell is flying the Millennium Falcon?!
