Re: The OOP Heads-Up Thread
Those two films are also available as a ridiculously cheap two-fer. I almost bought one just to have both for a few dollars more, but I'm still not sold on Happy Together, doesn't quite hold up from start-to-finish and it doesn't help that one of the lead characters comes off too much as an obnoxious twit.

Does anybody know if this Blu-ray of Come Drink with Me has English subtitles? I'm debating whether I should pick up the Dragon Dynasty release while I still can.ianungstad wrote:Actually; a number of Dragon Dynasty titles are being deleted. The Weinstein Company has also taken the website offline: http://www.dragondynasty.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Paramount Japan's website only lists Japanese subtitles, unfortunately.

Note that the English subs on DD's Come Drink with Me are junk. Apparently they're the same subs from the original theatrical release, so I guess they might be of historical interest. The IVL had much-improved subtitles, but slightly inferior PQ and no original mono track. And both versions have exclusive extras to boot. (Remarkably enough, Bey Logan and Cheng Pei-pei recorded commentaries for both releases, with Cheng's daughter joining them for the IVL session!)

EDIT: Just snagged the IVL off eBay.

Rocky Horror Picture Show and Edward Scissorhands discontinued by Fox this week. Expect to see them release new editions this year. 40th Anniversary of Rocky Horror and 25th Anniversary for Edward Scissorhands.

The last release of Rocky Horror didn't leave much to be desired--the picture in particular was gorgeous to my eyes--so hopefully this means just slapping new art on it rather than messing with something that wasn't broken.

Re: The OOP Heads-Up Thread
There are all kinds of editions and various levels of packaging for Rocky Horror right now. On blu-ray, there was the initial release that came with a book (and was dubbed 'limited edition'), they rereleased that same one without a book, you can get it in steelbook packaging, and I think there's one other variation. On DVD there's at least the regular edition and an edition with Target-exclusive packaging (which edition is actually in their circular today).ianungstad wrote:Rocky Horror Picture Show and Edward Scissorhands discontinued by Fox this week. There's a similar thing going on with Dr. Strangelove--the blu-ray release most people have and/or have seen, which came with a book like the first Rocky Horror release, has been out of print for something like a year and is marked up pretty high on sites like Amazon, but if you wander into a Best Buy you'll find that they have a Best Buy-exclusive steelbook release of the film.
Who knows what the marketing strategy is for this kind of thing. Trying to needle completists for all they're worth, I guess.

Lionsgate/Miramax discontinued Trainspotting on dvd and blu today. This is not an anniversary year and I don't see any immediate reason why it would be reissued. Huh.

The sequel, Porno, directed by Danny Boyle and (probably) starring Ewan McGregor and Jonny Lee Miller, is expected to come out next year.ianungstad wrote:Lionsgate/Miramax discontinued Trainspotting on dvd and blu today. According to MMM; MGM is discontinuing their blu release of Annie Hall. This release isn't that old. Wonder why it's on the chopping block. Hopefully they aren't discontinuing it and creating a new Twilight Time "limited edition".

Re: The OOP Heads-Up Thread
If a new edition is forthcoming, I hope they correct the audio sync problem found in some of the scenes on the MGM Blu-ray. Having the synch off during the opening scene when Allen addresses the camera makes it especially hard to get into the film properly.ianungstad wrote:According to MMM; MGM is discontinuing their blu release of Annie Hall. Re: The OOP Heads-Up Thread
I have the French collector's edition 2-disc digibook and while the blu-ray does also have the audio sync problem, it does not have new subtitles. The subtitles (for English audio w/ no subtitles) are just as they originally were (including the yellow color).hearthesilence wrote:They ought to bring back the original subtitles too.

Universal discontinued all blu and dvd releases of Psycho today. Looks like they have plans for a "55th Anniversary" edition or something. Seems unnecessary.

The current Blu-Ray is missing some red & blue color filters from some scenes and used some incorrect audioValin Kenobi wrote:The last release of Rocky Horror didn't leave much to be desired--the picture in particular was gorgeous to my eyes--so hopefully this means just slapping new art on it rather than messing with something that wasn't broken.

Lionsgate discontinued Total Recall on all formats today. It's the film's 25th Anniversary; so I assume like some of the others I mentioned above there's an anniversary edition in the works.
MGM discontinued on all formats; Lars and the Real Girl, Moonstruck, and Secret of NIMH. Probably licensed to third party studios and will be reissued soon-ish.

MGM discontinued all of the Bond dvds and blu-rays. I suppose the plan is to reissue these when Spectre hits theaters but I don't see the point. The early bond films can be found at any pawn shop or online marketplace for giveaway prices. It seems the reissue market on these is pretty tapped out.

Why do the James Bond films keep going in and out of print? This has been going on for years. I don't understand it.
