Re: José Luis Guerín on DVD
Great news about the Sylvia Blu, I doubt anyone has read any reviews or picked up this Blu, and might be able to comment on the picture quality? I've auto translated the customer comments on Amazon, and I can't see any reference to the PQ.
I don't think there are many films more deserving of a Blu-ray transfer, than this masterpiece but sadly the recent cinema guild release was DVD only. This could well be the only Blu-ray edition?
Cheers

Did anyone end up nabbing any of those Japanese Blus?

Not on DVD yet, but Academy of Muses is simply lovely--90 minutes of philosophical discussions about platonic love, art, inspiration, and using these things to justify spending time with women who are not your wife, much of it filmed through perfectly positioned reflective surfaces that would make Kiarostami blush.

De una isla (2019)
Guerín's latest just showed up on backchannels and I'm in love. It's an ethnographic 25-minute short very much in the vein of Epstein's Breton films, dedicated to the isle of Lanzarote in the Canary Islands. Some weird mythology going on, and a real sense of the ancient civilization buried underground the mostly barren landscapes that Guerín trains his camera on. Blink and you could easily mistake it as a century-old artifact, and yet it's also very modern in its way. This debuted at the Locarno Film Festival last year, and I'm not aware of any other release plans. It would be a wonderful bonus feature to the still unreleased La academia de las musas for some enterprising boutique label

I just had an urge to get Innisfree, but was disappointed to find that it's now OOP and unavailable from Amazon Japan. I don't suppose anyone knows of it being in stock anywhere?
