Re: Forthcoming: Discussion and Random Speculation Volume 7
I think they should defer the announcements for a month as a sign of respect. Like two minute's silence, but more entertaining in that we get to sit back and count the exploding heads.

They almost always wait until 5-6pm Eastern to announce them now, so no surprise in them not being up yet.

And the winner this month is everyone who didn't post their lists and correctly guessed that there'd be no update!

The latest I've ever seen the site updated is 6:30 PM EST, so if there isn't an update in the next twenty minutes, I'm giving up hope.

The month of Jeanne Dielman, announcements didn't come until like 11pm Eastern.RSTooley wrote:The latest I've ever seen the site updated is 6:30 PM EST, so if there isn't an update in the next twenty minutes, I'm giving up hope.

And we had to walk uphill in the snow for two miles to get to those announcements.

That's mildly comforting. Mildly.swo17 wrote:The month of Jeanne Dielman, announcements didn't come until like 11pm Eastern.RSTooley wrote:The latest I've ever seen the site updated is 6:30 PM EST, so if there isn't an update in the next twenty minutes, I'm giving up hope.

What the hell? Was there just one person there having a late work day?swo17 wrote:The month of Jeanne Dielman, announcements didn't come until like 11pm Eastern.RSTooley wrote:The latest I've ever seen the site updated is 6:30 PM EST, so if there isn't an update in the next twenty minutes, I'm giving up hope.

Re: Quarantined Monthly Guessing Thread
Usually they would have said the releases were coming tomorrow on Facebook or Twitter if they weren't putting them online tonight.

So what you're saying is that we're about to get a Jeanne Dielman upgrade?swo17 wrote:The month of Jeanne Dielman, announcements didn't come until like 11pm Eastern.RSTooley wrote:The latest I've ever seen the site updated is 6:30 PM EST, so if there isn't an update in the next twenty minutes, I'm giving up hope.

Oh man, please don't even joke about that.
Re: Quarantined Monthly Guessing Thread
Bizarre of Criterion not to give us any heads up for the announcements, but it seems safe to say at this point that they will not be coming tonight. Hopefully tomorrow?

We still have until 11 pm Eastern!
But, really, tomorrow it is.

I think they are in mourning over the loss of William Becker...

In this regard it was very disrespectful to post the Patrick Brice closet video during the mourning process. William Becker would probably be very upset that Criterion is giving away stuff in their closet during his grieving while making everyone wait for announcements.

Re: Quarantined Monthly Guessing Thread
The delay is due to their finalizing the ZATOICHI-sized Rob Reiner box. Merry Christmas!

I was going to mention that it doesn't look like Mr. Becker's passing affected other social media activity...

Maybe Criterion just doesn't have any December titles to announce

More likely is that the person (s) required to sign off on a release slate of announcements are out of the office for obvious reasons, I wouldn't draw broad conclusions about December not having releases until end of day next Tuesday or Wednesday.criterion10 wrote:Maybe Criterion just doesn't have any December titles to announce

The closet video could have been cued up to auto-post, possibly even before Becker died. It's likely there wasn't a lot of activity in the offices yesterday.

Re: Quarantined Monthly Guessing Thread
Rosh Hashanah was also going on yesterday. There are any number of reasons for the late announcements. I'm not mad!
My predictions (more like wishlist) for announcement today:
The Kid / First National Shorts (or really anything Chaplin would be great)
Speedy
Alfred Hitchcock / Ivor Novello Silent Double Feature
World Cinema Project Vol. 2
The Testament of Dr. Mabuse - upgrade
Short Cuts - upgrade
