If that's what music is to you, a way to get to a Criterion release, then yeah, it's a little careerist, and it's a little square... and it's a little sad.

Re: Criterion Newsletter (Part 3)
You are indeed! Sorry for leading everyone astray with Young and Innocent! Criterion do have the rights to the Hitchcock film, and the clue does make sense (the coat was very similar + the clue basically describes the plot of the film). As I've said before, Criterion/Polan are becoming more vague/cryptic with their newsletter clues, thus we are more & more finding several possible interpretations - which won't actually be solved until announced.justeleblanc wrote:Yay!!! All said, I have been wondering whether the apartment block on the one New Years clue might have been for the Dekalog - as Criterion have confirmed that they had planned to release it a year+ ago but still had more work to do or something.

Seems like we're all caught up on the newsletter clues (unless you still think that the clue for Il Sorpasso was for Midnight Cowboy )

They're now going to exclusively sell their releases at participating Red Robin restaurants?
Re: Criterion Newsletter: Clues and More, Volume Four
That's obviously a clue for Midnight Cowboy.

Certainly possible, but why not make the bird red then? Why the red hair?Feiereisel wrote:"Red bird"/Red Beard?

Okay, it's a bird. A bird with waving locks of red hair.
Red hair. Bird's head. Red head. Bird's hair.
Red hair! Red head!
HEAD confirmed for HD-DVD re-release.

That possum is so ill that it's turned into an entirely different species. And its head must be sore being under those locks.

Another play on words. Red Beard.. This has just been restored, so makes some sense.

Blu-ray.com is suggesting Gilda - given the bird's Rita Hayworth hair.
Re: Criterion Newsletter: Clues and More, Volume Four
Red Beard seems plausible, but as danieltiger said, why not make the whole bird red instead of merely its hair? Seems like something else at play here.

Yeah, I considered that, but after "coat unknown" I just went with the first thing that popped to mind. Not my strongest guess by any means.danieltiger wrote:Certainly possible, but why not make the bird red then? Why the red hair?Feiereisel wrote:"Red bird"/Red Beard?

They are almost always puns, why do so many people on the internet insist on arriving at solutions that don't take this into consideration?

Re: Criterion Newsletter: Clues and More, Volume Four
Unless somebody can offer a satisfactory reason as to why this bird was drawn with flowing locks, I sincerely doubt that this is a clue for Red Beard.
And no, a double clue is not a satisfactory reason....
