Maybe, but I can't imagine why Criterion would want to turn down what is still Haynes' best and still most relevant film which features one of the greatest, most underrated central performances of the 1990s. It's already got an excellent commentary ready to go.knives wrote:That seems like more of an Olive thing to be honest.
Also, just so everybody knows, this thread will be locked as soon as the new releases are announced and a new thread opened up for the December releases. We used to do this a long time ago and I decided to revive it again since so many people seem interested in making lists of potential releases every month. Something to cling to in desperate times, I suppose...

Matt, so current discussion of November titles should move back to the main thread once they're announced?

It should move to each individual new thread once they're created.

What if someone says "All these releases suck, why isn't there any new Ozu?"

What swo17 said. Ideally, there wouldn't be any discussion in this thread, just lists, but you guys have a very frustrating habit of wanting to discuss things in list threads. What kind of internet forum is this?

Going back to this thread's eponymous activity, is there an odds-on favorite for Blu upgrade this month? PICNIC ON HANGING ROCK is long overdue but that's the only one I can think of.

I think/hope it's going to be Tokyo Story for the Blu Upgrade, but who knows there could be more than one. They can't do Picnic at Hanging Rock or people will have to take 5 minutes to figure out which one they want to complain about next for being overdue.

So if the big Zatochi box is coming out this month, does that mean it's going to be an otherwise light month? Or will it be a crazy month where they release all of the most-wanted Christmas gift material?

November is traditionally one of their biggest months, it won't be scant release-wise either way

You're pulling this one totally out of your ass, right? Though I'd buy this in a hearbeat, there's never been a hint Criterion's been interested in these titles, right?Aspect wrote:Eclipse: The Televised Tortures of Michael Haneke

I don't believe there's ever been a hint that the rights are up for grabs, whether they're interested or not.warren oates wrote:You're pulling this one totally out of your ass, right? It would be nice to have some pre-Cache Haneke that aren't PAL conversions, though.

Re: Guess the November 2013 Releases
I hope they do the Zatoichi in the manner that Time Life gussied up the same PD title collection that otherwise sells for under $10 anywhere: put it in a film canister and charge $100! Maybe they can be sheathed in a thick, round sword?Matt wrote:Border Radio blu and Zatoichi box MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Re: Guess the November 2013 Releases
Kino still has the rights to those theatrical features and at least to one TV film of The Castle. But I think we're talking specifically about Haneke's early TV work. Aside from The Castle and The Rebellion, almost all of the TV work comes before his first feature film The Seventh Continent. All of the TV stuff is interesting. And you can certainly see how he came out of the gate so strongly with this first theatrical feature, as he'd had years of patient painstaking practice in theater and TV films beforehand.Brian C wrote:It would be nice to have some pre-Cache Haneke that aren't PAL conversions, though.

Artificial Eye is working toward a big Haneke Blu-ray set next year as soon as high-def transfers for all the films are done.Brian C wrote:It would be nice to have some pre-Cache Haneke that aren't PAL conversions, though.
