Blissfully Yours

Image

Innovative and enigmatic, Blissfully Yours is a languid celebration of the pleasures of the moment. In Apichatpong's heady, sensual and playful film, a leisurely road trip and a picnic in the jungle give way to uninhibited emotion and eroticism.

A meditation on happiness, superstition, politics and sexuality, nothing really happens except that it happens with a purpose. Blissfully Yours confirms the reputation of one of the most distinctive new filmmakers in world cinema.

Special Features

• Newly filmed introduction by director Apichatpong Weerasethakul.
• Presented fully uncut in a new transfer approved by the Director.
• Anamorphic 16:9 enhanced for widescreen televisions.
• New and improved English subtitle translation.
• Optimal quality dual-layer disc.
• Booklet featuring new Essay on the film by Tony Rayns and cast and production notes and photos.

We would love to be releasing Tropical Malady but unfortunately the rights have been secured by another company.

Gary at the Beaver says this is non-HD sourced and shows combing. Too bad.

Link? I can't find any mention of this at the Beav except for the calendar entry on the main page.

It'll be added to the main page as soon as the comparison is finished. In the meantime, going to the existing comparison of the other Blissfully Yours DVDs (via the "B" page of reviews) shows a combed-out capture from the No Shame DVD.

I'm afraid this release has been put back a week as it shipped late from the manufacturers.

Bikey, can you explain why there is combing on this disc. Is it because it's non-progressive? or was the source material non-HD?

But is it anamorphic? Beev seems to imply that it isn't...

Well I enjoyed this one immensely. The whole film has a very relaxed, peaceful feel to it, although one has the sense that it is an escape, an insulated world, a temporary break from a more oppressive reality. Really loved the long sequence driving out to the secluded area, it reminded me a little of The Brown Bunny (a good thing, for me at least). When the title came up 45 minutes or so into the film, I had a big grin on my face.

This is a wonderful film --- one of the best new films I've seen in the last few years. Very keen now to see Joe's other films that I haven't seen.
