Nick can give a definitive answer to this, obviously, but here's what the booklet says:
For this 2010 Masters of Cinema Series Blu-ray edition we encoded the HD master in 1080p AVC format on a BD25. Heartened by Fox’s U.S. release of this master without any heavy-handed digital restoration, we decided against HD- DVNR, MTI, other forms of digital restoration, or grain removal, after tests revealed noticeable disruption of the tonal quality belonging to the film image in many scenes. We used the same hands-off approach with our release of Carl Theodor Dreyer’s Vampyr: The Strange Adventure of Allan Gray and F. W. Murnau’s Sunrise: A Song of Two Humans, and we feel it more respectful to the filmmakers and the patina of the image. The level of damage still present is exactly what you would see if you were to project this same 35mm film restoration theatrically.
...though in practice the damage is absolutely minimal bar the occasional very faint tramline: this is one of the best prints of an 80-year-old film that I've seen.

I'm in the same boat, but I'm wavering, even though Kalat's are practically the only commentaries I listen to.
Do you think I'll convince myself if I say that with City Girl I'll have all the extant Murnaus in single editions?

We haven't applied any filters (such as Edge Enhancement) to anything we've ever put out. Any amplified acutance that might be visible is inherent in either the print or Fox's HD master.

Thank you, Nick, for this fantastic release. It looks absolutely fabulous on those screenshots. Unfortunately, I cannot order it until the end of March.

Can't wait to see how good M looks. O:)

As a keen fan of the Moc series, I know that you wouldn't have unnecessarily altered the image. I just suspect that Fox themselves used a little edge enhacement during restoration to sharpen the image.

Only if you can tell me where I can find single editions (or editions at all) of "Der Gang in die Nacht" and "Der brennende Acker"

Seriously, what would I give for an MoC release of these...

Yeah, me too. I was pushing it a bit, my single editions of "Gang" and "Acker" are, obviously, bootlegs, but they're not bad.

Shouldn't someone delete 86 from the title of he thread since this didn't get a DVD release?

The 86 has been 86ed, but I wasn't quite sure how to number this now since MOC 8 is Metropolis. The "b" is both for Blu-ray, and in honor of Criterion laserdiscs which used to designate spines with "b" for CLV/CAV versions. If Nick/Craig/Jon have a preferred nomenclature, I'd be glad to change it.

Thanks to Eureka, I just received this disc in my grubby American hands today, 12 days before the UK street date. Scanned the booklet and watching the disc now. Both are as impressive as I expected. Congrats on another job amazingly well done!

£15.88 via Paypal -> $26.08 USD. No shipping charges or tax or VAT of any kind. I'm neither Australian nor homosexual though, so your mileage may vary!

Well, it's official. My local mail delivery stinks. I'm on the east coast and haven't received mine yet!

8b is really uneasy on the eyes at a glance. Wouldn't just an asterisk be better? For dual releases like Tokyo Sonata thread titles could be "81 & 3* Tokyo Sonata".

I don't know, peerpee--the combination of all-caps and parentheses make my molars ache. And then there's that rash--well, let's not even go there. How about something like ou8 City Girl 2?

I like that, but it looks like a headline from a Variety story about Law and Order SVU star B.D. Wong going down on Mary Duncan, which is unlikely for a variety of reasons.

How about 8 (BD) City Girl

I feel like an optometrist. Better here, or better here. One or two?

I like dashes. Either BD-8 or 8-BD. I call for a forum vote!

Gasp!

Jesus H Christmas... you could frigging fingerprint, and pull up a yellow sheet on Mary Duncan simply popping in the frigging Blu.

Amazing.

Watched it twice last night (once with the great Kalat commentary). It is truly a thing of beauty. My favorite purchase in a looooong time.
