Re: Studio Canal/Kinowelt/Optimum
I was waiting for some post-2017 restorations to see if Ritrovata indeed fixed their gradings, as heard by a member, but clearly they didn't.
Incidentally, I quickly went through Youssef Chahine's Adieu Bonaparte yesterday, and Eclair's gradings are getting quite easy to spot too.
EDIT : my bad, it's actually Eclair, so there is still a chance Ritrovata worked on their gradings.

Don't forget the hideous macro-blocking as seen on the gown in the first screencap.domino harvey wrote: ↑Sun Sep 16, 2018 7:55 pmStudioCanal's new "restored" Producers Blu-ray gets soaked in piss-- one guess who did the resto

Re: Studio Canal/Kinowelt/Optimum
I don't want to defend this specific point, but I'm not too bother with macro-blocking in this kind of places. Unlike in Beauty and the Beast, this is likely to be difficult to spot in motion (more like Pan's Labyrinth).
However, it still tackls the question : how can a 90 minute catalogue movie without a crapload of soundtracks or heavily spatialized tracks can end up with only a 24 Mbps despite using a BD-50 ?

Yep, it had to be either Éclair or Ritrovata, and this time it's...domino harvey wrote: ↑Sun Sep 16, 2018 7:55 pmStudioCanal's new "restored" Producers Blu-ray gets soaked in piss-- one guess who did the resto

I was thus wrong in thinking that's Ritrovata, though there isn't much to rejoice about this mistake.

Hopefully they won't have fucked up the new Marienbad.

I've had CC's Marienbad unwatched on my shelf for years, but considering it comes with a purposefully unrestored audio track, there is no way I would give it up in this day and age.

Re: Studio Canal/Kinowelt/Optimum
I briefly looked at the new disc and the PQ at least looks quite good. There is only one French track, a new restoration whose high frequencies seem intact.
Extras are the same than the old SC disc plus a new 30 min doc on Resnaid and Robbe Grillet. The 2 shorts have been newly restored. And the original trailer has been replaced bt the 2018 rerelease one.

Hopefully the first of many Von Trottas. If not, I'll be importing.

Several of the John Carpenter 4k deluxe editions seem to be out of stock on Amazon for some time. I assumed they just sold well during the holidays, but are Escape From NY and The Fog out of print permanently?

Seems like standard non-LE UHD releases are coming out in March?

The LEs seems definitely OOP and yes, standard UHD releases seem to be upcoming to replace those.

I guess we're at the point when the general audience got "4K" so much shoved into its throat than BD and DVD formats need these additons.Blu-ray (2K) and DVD (~1K)

Re: Studio Canal/Kinowelt/Optimum
Has anyone heard any rumblings about a “Volume 2” for The Ealing Studios Collection on Blu-ray?
Volume 1 (Kind Hearts and Coronets / The Lavender Hill Mob / The Man in the White Suit) came out in 2014, and they’ve released plenty of stand-alone Blu-rays of Ealing titles since, so I’m curious about the delay. Has it officially been cancelled?

Re: Studio Canal/Kinowelt/Optimum
I don't think that's likely to happen. The first volume probably didn't sell enough to justify it.

Re: Studio Canal/Kinowelt/Optimum
Studio Canal is releasing Don't Look Now as a UHD/Blu-ray combo. Based on their infamous previous release, widely considered by many to be among the worst Blu-rays of all time, it's prob worth waiting to see more, but talk about a ballsy movie for a UHD release!

Re: Studio Canal/Kinowelt/Optimum
Criterion's diac already boasts a 4K transfer from OCN approved by Mr. Roeg. So is there any reason to believe StudioCanal did something new here?

Re: Studio Canal/Kinowelt/Optimum
This is a new different restoration, though there's no word here if it's better or not than the one used by Criterion. It'll be interesting however to compare it to the existing one, because it's recent, competently done, in 4K and approved by Roeg.
