Re: Twilight Time
Yeah I'm very hesitant with TT nowadays with Indicator being around. Will definitely wait to see if Indicator does Hajji Baba. Their announcement of the title just makes me excited that it's now a possibility for a UK company to release it

Re: Twilight Time
Hajji Baba is an excellent film with some striking compositions in it. And a great theme song that hasn't left my head since I first heard it

Re: Twilight Time
Sword of Sherwood Forest had a DVD release by Sony here in the UK (both individually and in The Robin Hood Collection) so I wouldn't be at all surprised if it had an Indicator upgrade at some point in the future. In fact, this has just reminded me that it is currently sat in my Kevyip! What A Disgrace wrote: ↑Sat Jul 28, 2018 10:23 amGlad I bought the 88 Films release of Glass Dolls, otherwise I'd be tempted to wait and see if TT's disc had any extras. It sounds like top tier giallo - can't wait to finally watch it.
Sword of Sherwood Forest sounds like it might make a later Hammer boxed set release from Indicator, and Hajji Baba definitely sounds like its up theirs or Arrow's alley.
So I don't think I'll be touching any TTs any time soon.

Re: Twilight Time
Twilight Time seems to think I will purchase $119.80 of discs in order to get a copy of Baby Boom signed by legendary director Charles Shyer.

Surely the film historian would think that’s a worthy purchase.

I wonder if Indicator would be interested in putting out a Ford at Fox set? Off the top of my head, only My Darling Clementine has been released (& is in print) by another UK label

Re: Twilight Time
I could be wrong, but my memory is telling me that The True Story of Jesse James was pretty good. I remember Robert Wagner giving off the attitude of being a rebellious teen rather than a hardened criminal, but it's been over a decade since I saw it and my memory is fuzzy on this film. Any other opinions? I know it's also out on Blu in Germany.

I think it's Ray's worst film, but can't remember much about it other than that being my takeaway

I remember Hot Blood being his worst film, which like Jesse James, falls in between two of his masterpieces.domino harvey wrote: ↑Sat Aug 25, 2018 2:19 pmI think it's Ray's worst film, but can't remember much about it other than that being my takeaway

Re: Twilight Time
I liked the film enough even though it's unexceptional, ranked it about 8th among his films; I'll be getting this.

Re: Twilight Time
Hot Blood isn't great but it does at least exhibit Ray's fascination and identification with outsiders. I recall Ray's Jesse James basically being the CW version of the myth. I actually proposed it as part of an aborted project to revisit the least-favorite film of an auteur in the last iteration of the 50s List, but I never worked up the courage to watch it again! The Elegant Dandy Fop wrote: ↑Sat Aug 25, 2018 2:23 pmI remember Hot Blood being his worst film, which like Jesse James, falls in between two of his masterpieces.domino harvey wrote: ↑Sat Aug 25, 2018 2:19 pmI think it's Ray's worst film, but can't remember much about it other than that being my takeaway

Re: Twilight Time
I suppose this film exists only in my memory as the one they thought was going to be a hit and instead Star Wars happened. Has anyone seen it?

The synopsis reads as so absurdly melodramatic, I’ve alwas been tempted to check it out.

On their Facebook page, someone asked if the film was any good and TT responded, "Good fun trash!"
Probably as good of an endorsement as any film would need.

Fun fact: this was one of the very last films Fox put out on DVD before abandoning non-MOD DVD releases

Re: Twilight Time
Back in the late 70s, there were a couple of film publications (I believe "Movies On TV" was one) that confused this film with Welles' unfinished The Other Side of the Wind. How appropriate then that Midnight rears its head again just as the finally-completed Welles feature premiers! Sorry, I've never seen this film...I saw Star Wars instead.

Re: Twilight Time
Watched the TT Blu of My Sister Eileen last night and it looks very good, though I'm still uneasy about how dark it is, which seems to be a common issue with TT Blus. The increased detail is remarkable, though. The sound was unfortunately less impressive. Better than the DVD, sure, but overall don't be like me, wait for a sale (or start regularly attending your local Indicator Release prayer circle)domino harvey wrote: ↑Thu Jun 28, 2018 11:08 amThe color palette is darker (though I suspect the initial Sony DVD was a lot paler and more subdued than one would expect for a film of the era), but wow at that increased detail-- look at the comparison of Betty Garrett talking to Kurt Kaznar on the stoop-- you can actually see her shirt's pattern now!
