Ovader's announcement is now 18 months old. The Schaztberg is available - I have it; it's great. No signs of the Robbe-Grillets, sadly. Carlotta released Spanish Prisoner on DVD, but not blu-ray. No Ulmer blu-ray set, as far as I can tell.Yojimbo wrote:'Page introuvable': must seek out the Ulmer set

Does anyone know what happened here? The other two were released, but it seems Paper Flowers was taken out of the set, although there's still a individual listing/cover at amazon.fr.Cold Bishop wrote:After the brief discussion in the Leos Carax thread, I'm both surprised and thrilled at these finally being presented in (I hope) watchable editions.eerik wrote:5th September

Friedkin did a commentary track on Warner's release of The Narrow Margin. Haven't heard it, but the Violent Saturday disc would be the second Fleischer film he's covered. Were the two friends?

No idea, but make that three: apparently there's another 21 minute piece on Carlotta's upcoming Boston Strangler Blu!Reverend Drewcifer wrote:Friedkin did a commentary track on Warner's release of The Narrow Margin. I don't know - I realize a lot of people won't value these much, but I'm with the guy who said he could listen to Friedkin reading a shampoo bottle Either way, surely even a barebones Blu of Violent Saturday would be cause for celebration, as it's only been available on variously crummy non-anamorphic DVDs...

Re: Carlotta Releases
Thanks for the info on Boston Strangler. Fleischer has a pretty solid 50/50 ratio regarding good/bad movies. His autobiography is one of my favorite film books; he met everyone, had big ups and big downs, and is plainspoken and gossips without malice. He's the epitome of Silver Age Hollywood craftsmanship.

Re: Carlotta Releases
Does anyone have the Carlotta release of "Jeanne Dielman"? I would like to know whether there are subtitles,
preferably optional French ones. Thanks.

Re: Carlotta Releases
FYI, I finally ordered Carlotta's Coffret Guru Dutt 2-disc set of Dutt's Pyaasa and Sahib, Bibi aur Ghulam. Both transfers are a BIG improvement over the Indian DVDs from companies such as Yash Raj and Eros. Not perfect perhaps, but better than average for Indian films from that period. For once you have the opportunity to actually appreciate V. K. Murthy's cinematography. If you don't mind French-only subtitles, it's worth getting.
I just wish that they had included Kaagaz ke Phool, but I suspect they weren't able to locate decent elements for the 'scope version of that film. (I have the 'scope version from Eros Entertainment, and the print is damaged almost beyond belief.) It's a shame because that film really has the most poetic songs in Indian cinema. At last that's what I think...

September 18th from Carlotta 2 x Antonioni...
FEMMES ENTRE ELLES (LE AMICHE) on BR & DVD
LE MYSTERE D'OBERWALD (IL MISTERO DI OBERWALD) on DVD
The latter being especially interesting (the former presumably being similar to the excellent MoC release)...

Re: Carlotta Releases
FELLINI'S CASANOVA Carlotta Blu Ray is simply superb... Only has French subs, but Italian, English & French soundtrack options... While the Italian track is obviously preferred, only on the English soundtrack does Sutherland speak in his own voice, he is dubbed by another actor on the Italian...

Carlotta launching U.S. distribution company. Among its first releases will be a couple of Carax films, including that Frances Ha premake.

Don't get too excited, from Blu-ray.com
As Variety notes, DVD and Blu-Ray rights for the Carax releases are in Kino's hands. Carlotta will only be able to release BD when these rights are free.

Re: Carlotta Releases
I don't see anything in the Variety article that says Kino has the Carax films. There is this bit:
Carlotta will not automatically acquire U.S. or U.S. and French rights. One example: Carlotta is handling world sales right on “The Little Fugitive” rights but Kino has DVD rights in the U.S.

You're right, those sentences are a mess. Sorry for the scare, but means hope is alive.

Re: Carlotta Releases
I saw both restorations last week and the French dude from Carlotta could barely contain his excitement introducing Mauvais Sang so much so that a few old people started hissing at him. Now I don't want to disappoint anyone as I'm far from an expert on the topic but in comparison to the print I saw at the French Institute back in January the restoration in spots looked a bit artificial to me. What an incredible film tho, I'm planning on going back for a 3rd time this year during its Film Forum run. Conversely upon second viewing I felt Boy Meets Girl was lacking something.

My French isn't the best but, from my understanding of this Cahiers article, Carlotta will be releasing Welles' Othello in both the US and France next year.

Wonderful news. I'd hope a higher quality release of this might make me appreciate it more. Exciting, either way, though.

Re: Carlotta Releases
I'll only add (once again) that I hope the initial European edit of OTHELLO is the one that gets released - better shot selection/additional footage, better sound mix, better dubbing than the more widely-seen U.S. edit.

Just wondering how long we have to wait for the usual Beatrice Welles lawsuit...
Re: Carlotta Releases
I'm hoping they have both cuts, European and US (the US being what Criterion used for the LD, I believe).
