I hope for the sake of newcomers that they've ported over the extensive extras Erice put together for the Spanish edition. Fascinating stuff. (And if Carlotta's version don't include English subs, the Spanish release does.)

I don't think they will include anything else than French subs, the same way MoC or Cc are compelled to English subs only.
Though they once added Spanish subs (for Cria Cuervos, but it was done thanks to a partnership with some Spain schools for a pedagogic edition).

I'm excited for the Borzages, but I'll have to be a part time hooker like in the Allen's last film for buying them.
Does anybody own the Bolognini's? Mauro is the only regista that I remember that I don't like, never (exeptt Il bell'Antonio) . Curious.

No but Surf Video released them in Italy, so if and when I do own them, I'll buy the Italian editions.

Has anyone seen the Lionel Rogosin set, or a review? I was wondering about transfer quality, forced subs (can't remember if Carlotta ever does that) etc.

Does anyone know if the Carlotta Lucky Star blu-ray will definitely contain the English intertitles? I'd like to pre-order but the possibility that it won't is giving me pause.

In response to my own query, the Carlotta Lucky Star does indeed have English intertitles. (I was afraid that may not be the case since the original intertitles no longer exist and the ones on the Fox DVD are a "re-translation" of the Dutch intertitles from the print discovered in a Netherlands archive in 1990.) The whole disc is just stunning.

They also mention a blu-ray release of Colonel Blimp. I hope that the Detour DVD will be better than the old Image disk.

And that "plus more" also contains a blu-ray of Renoir's "The River".

These are superb! This must be the absolute real deal with THE RIVER restoration... Looks as if it will also come soon to BFI & Criterion BR.... But, pour moi, roll on next week with the Carlotta, which looks as if it will be hard to better...

Just picked up on Vittorio de Seta this weekend & ordered the Carlotta coffret of the 10 celebrated short documentaries from the 1950s, VITTORIO DE SETA - LE MONDE PERDU, by the filmmaker championed by Martin Scorsese as "an anthropologist who speaks with the voice of a poet"... They also show at the London Italian Film Festival on 20th March, and most can be found on Youtube too...

John Francis Lane's characteristically thorough & insightful De Seta obituary from The Guardian, 11 December 2011...

While this is a really good one hour documentary on the man and his films - DETOUR DE SETA - streamed online with Eng subs...

Blu-ray.com review of the Carlotta BD of THE RIVER. Perfect Video and Audio scores!

The review mentions the BFI took part in the restoration process - will this mean a BD release by the BFI in the UK any time soon do we think...? I suppose if the audio and video are perfect then it doesn't matter which edition one gets (that's if a UK Region B BD of the film turns up in the near future).

I was under the impression this was the restoration BFI etc did years ago and which was the basis of their DVD? If that's the case then it doesn't make a Blu-ray imminent.. although it seems a safe bet regardless.

I'm excited for Pyassa, which I've wanted to see for a long time! Are Carlotta's releases usually English-friendly?

After the brief discussion in the Leos Carax thread, I'm both surprised and thrilled at these finally being presented in (I hope) watchable editions.

I wouldn't hope too much. So far, I haven't seen any Carlotta BD with Eng subs.
